I am sure that the sight of all the poppies “planted” in November near to the War Memorial in St Lawrence’s churchyard will stay with many people for a long time.
The Caterham Hill Parish Council were selling the poppies at St Lawrence’s Winter Floral Festival in December. From the amount raised the Parish Council very generously donated £500 to St Lawrence’s church, for which we are very grateful.
The church is becoming very much a community church. Ridge Radio’s Live Music evenings and the Repair Café are now regular monthly events held in the church and we thank them very much indeed for their ongoing donations. Following the success of the Craft Fair held in the church in the autumn another one will be held on 23rd March.
All the kind donations the Guild receives are spent on the upkeep of the Ancient Church. With their help we are getting nearer to our goal of having a flush toilet installed – but more about that at a later date.
The World Day of Prayer service is being held in St Lawrence’s on Friday 1st March at 7.30 pm. This year the service has been prepared by Christian Women of Slovenia. St Mary’s music group Free Spirit and St Luke’s Larks will provide the music. Refreshments will be served after the service with music and a film of Slovenia. All are welcome.
