God’s Gifts (poem)

Who made the golden sun for warmth and light,
The silver moon and stars that shine so bright,
Each pebble smooth , each tiny grain of sand,
The hills and cliffs,  the rocks, the fertile land.
All things come from you, Lord God, we thank you.

Who made the fish and whales that roam the seas,
Insects, butterflies, the helpful honey bees,
The singing birds that cheer, the cuckoo’s call,
So many different creatures, large and small,
All things come from you, Lord God, we thank you.

Who made, for shade and beauty, splendid trees,
Graceful willows that tremble in the breeze,
The sturdy beech and oak, the scented limes,
The chestnuts and the stately Scottish pines,
All things come from you, Lord God. we thank you.

Who gave us oats and rice and golden wheat
Vegetables and fruit for us to eat,
Precious water to drink to give us health,
With bounty such as this you give us wealth.
All things come from you, Lord God, we thank you.

The grass, the shrubs, so many lovely flowers,
All helped to grow with sunshine and with showers,
Each lion, bear, giraffe, each dog and cat
So much for us to see and wonder at.
All things come from you, Lord God, we thank you.
