A Church of the Caterham Team Ministry: Caterham Deanery - Diocese of Southwark - Church of England
Scouts

The 1st Caterham Scout Group was one of the first in the country and celebrated its Centenary in 2008.  The Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scout sections are well attended at their own premises on Park Road. All the sections are open to boys and girls. The leaders are all trained in safeguarding and DBS checked.

Beavers – 6-8 years

Thursday 6.15-7.15pm

These are our youngest members, and meet for an hour per week. It is a great introduction to all that Scouting has to offer; being introduced to outdoor activities, having the opportunity to be creative, explore their local community and experience the excitement of a Beaver Scout Sleepover with their friends.

Cubs – 8 and 10 ½ years

Tuesday 6.30-8.00pm

For Cubs, excitement and adventure are key. Their program offers a huge variety of activities surrounding areas of fitness, global awareness and beliefs; whilst allowing them to be creative and get involved in their local communities. Cubs are introduced to exciting outdoor skills and take part in adventurous activities, as well as camps and residential experiences.

Scouts – 10½ and 14+ years

Friday 7.30-9.30pm

Scouts aims to build and develop young people’s confidence, sense of adventure, leadership and outdoor skills, as well as encouraging them to explore their beliefs and attitudes and be creative.  It offers them the independence to put these skills into practice at camps and even on international trips.

Explorers – 14-18 years

With the support, direction and guidance of Unit leaders, Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves, design their own programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers. With exciting prospects like being a part of camps and expeditions both home and abroad; adventurous activities such as mountaineering, parascending and off shore sailing; Explorers offers fun and adventure for all. Explorers also have the opportunity to be a part of The Young Leaders’ Scheme which develops their leadership skills and sense of responsibility, by helping to run meetings for younger sections. Due to the pressure of education at this stage there tend to be fewer members than in the other groups so the Explorer Unit is run by District Scouts centrally and takes Scouts from all groups in the Caterham District.

Volunteers

Helping young people to develop is extremely rewarding. These activities are run on a voluntary basis and we are always keen to hear from you if you would like to train as a leader.

For information on any of the sections or being a volunteer, please contact the Group Scout Leader by email at gsl.1stcaterhamscouts@gmail.com.
