Welcare supports families needing help – both through prayer and practical help. Groups on offer include: Mummy and Me, One Step at a Time, Parenting Puzzle, Let’s talk, Messy Play. All of these can only take place through the combined work of paid and volunteer staff as well as support from local churches and other organisations.
Despite Covid, Welcare, like the Churches, has kept going! For 2021 our church collected a generous Harvest contribution. Likewise the Christmas appeal (not toys this time) but money-gifts and vouchers amounting to £500 plus for which Welcare was delighted.
With the start of 2022 and Covid restrictions lifting, Welcare swung into action being able to see families face to face – trying to get back to normality.
Welcare Prayers continue to arrive every month which I use during the church service-but will in future put them up in the church for all to see.
The Welcare Centre Manager, Lynn decided to follow pastures new – after investing in, developing and building the positive and supportive working environment all have appreciated. She will be much missed. Fortunately, a new Centre Manager has come forward – Catharine Adjei. Catharine has been a former Deputy Centre Manager at Redhill Welcare before, and leaves her current role as Child Family and Support worker at St. Matthews Church of England Primary school Redhill – so has a wealth of experience to offer. She will start on the 6th June.
In contrast, Anna Khan CEO pays tribute to Denise Mumford who sadly passed away this January. Denise played a significant role in shaping Welcare and was responsible for the 1994 Centenary Appeal which enabled supporters to purchase properties from which to deliver work – including the Redhill Centre.
A future event is a Thanksgiving service on Friday 17th June 11.00a.m at St. John the Evangelist, Church Road Redhill.
An army of volunteers carry out the work putting the money we give to great use.
As always very many thanks are sent to you at St. Mary’s from Welcare for the continued support. Please remember Welcare in your prayers. With very best wishes to you all.
