A Birthday, a Welcome and a Lockdown
Well, what a year it has been for Free Spirit! April started quietly enough with our usual routine of 9.30am on the first Sunday and the Time and Space service in St Lawrence’s on the second Sunday. Later that month we received a great welcome in the United Reformed Church where we helped support the Scouting Movement with their St George’s Day Parade.
The usual routine carried on throughout the Summer and saw Free Spirit consolidate the Time and Space Service with increased attendance and trying out some new ideas. As Autumn approached two events became the focus of the group. The first eagerly anticipated event was the service to welcome Trevor and Laura to St Mary’s. Free Spirit performed both before and during the service providing prayerful and celebratory music. The second event in November was to celebrate our 20th Birthday! We had a very special celebratory service in St Lawrence’s and were overwhelmed by the support and good wishes we received.
Christmas was busy. We assisted with worship for the Christingle Service, Christmas Day and a magical Time and Space Service around the Jesse Tree in St Lawrence’s. In March we performed at the World Day of Prayer in the United Reformed Church. The service had been prepared in Zimbabwe so we were challenged to learn and perform African music new to the group.
Sadly, this was the last service at which we were able to be physically present because of lockdown. However, not to be defeated, thanks to Martin’s efforts, Time and Space went on to Zoom throughout Lockdown and meant an enormous amount to those who were able to join Free Spirit for worship at this difficult time.
